The AVFD handles about 60 calls a year. Most of these are medical calls: either residents of our communities have some sort of medical emergency or those living or travelling through our communities have an accident or emergency. Vehicle accidents on Route 9 create many calls where we respond to control traffic to make the scene safe and render what medical assistance that we can. We have about 5 or 6 calls for fires each year. Volunteers respond to what calls they can; our hope is to have enough members to be able to respond for each incident.
